We are looking for Python backend developers to strengthen our team. Together we are building a product that helps our users to get more restorative sleep, and to see how their lifestyle affects their body and mind.

We offer intellectually and technically interesting challenges that differ from a typical web app scaling problems. The Oura ring has tracked over 1M nights of biodata and helped people in over 50 countries to improve their sleep and recovery. And this is only the beginning.

We are running on AWS infrastructure and use key AWS services like EC2, S3, SQS and Lambda.

We are looking for you, if you

• have great Python programming skills
• have an excellent understanding of relational databases and SQL
• enjoy writing maintainable and testable code
• see handling massive amounts of data as intellectually stimulating challenge
• have a solid experience of standard software development tools and practices: version control (git), issue tracking, unit testing and agile development processes
• understand industry-standard practices on the server security
• have pragmatic can-do attitude: shipping working software makes you happy

Although not necessary, we appreciate if you have

• experience in running, monitoring and debugging production systems at scale on AWS
• a good grasp of serverless paradigm, task queues and various data storage solutions and trade-offs between them
• no fear to touch a bit of C/C++ code now and then

As a backend developer at Oura, you will

• design and implement APIs used by our mobile and web apps and our external partners
• design a data processing pipeline together with data scientists
• scale storing and processing a huge amount of biosignal data
• work together with DevOps to ensure stability, security and scalability of our backend

Our recruitment process

1. Send your application to careers@ouraring.com. Briefly describe something you have build and are proud of. Add links to products you have worked on. Tell us why you are excited about working at Oura, and attach your CV.
2. We’ll have a short meeting over Google Hangouts with selected candidates. We want to learn more about you and what makes you tick.
3. In-person technical interview. We discuss your past projects, things that you are most proud of. We don’t make anyone to write home assignments for us, but we might do a coding exercise or discuss through your existing code. Having public code repositories, or publicly available products you have build (apps, web services, …) helps us to assess your programming skills.
4. Meeting our team and founders at Oura headquarters in Oulu. We are a distributed team between Oulu, Helsinki, San Francisco and a couple of other cities, but we are still a big family and you learn to know everyone.
